ABSTRACT
Socrates destroyed the arguments of his opponents by asking them a series of questions, thus exposing the inconsistencies in their thinking. For him the final stage of education was liberation, when the pupil, through questioning, finally rejected habit and prejudice. His name has often been attached to the general strategy of teaching by asking a series of questions, known as the Socratic method.
