ABSTRACT
The war provoked a big shift of population towards the towns. Denmark industrialised very rapidly. In 1945, empty property was requisitioned to help solve the chronic housing shortage. A year later a generous building subsidy was introduced for anyone prepared to build-private landlord, social housing company or individual owner. The non-profit sector was set to grow rapidly, as it had in place a national structure and local organisations ready to build.
