Education, legislation and economic performance: the case of Japan

Japanese education, public and private, is set within a framework of laws. These are primarily those which form the Japanese Constitution of 1946, the Fundamental Laws of Education (1947), the School Law (1947), the Board of Education Law and Local Educational Administration Law (1948-56) and many administrative ordinances. Japanese education is under the rigid control of judicial legislation.
