ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to comparatively discuss the future trajectory of the socalled new economy in Europe, North America and East Asia. The idea that there is a “new” economy is certainly fascinating and it is not surprising that it has taken so much ground in the business world, the political community and the press. John Maynard Keynes knew very well that expectations play a fundamental role in fostering the business cycle. The hope that we might be experiencing the development of something as intriguing as a new economy has helped some corporations to support their stock market performance, some politicians to be elected or reelected and the press to increase their sales.
