Prehistory and the early post-war years

In expressing their sorrow over World War II, women, both in the early post-war years and even today, have often argued that women were the chief victims of the war. Japanese women who lived through the war generally consider the unequal laws and the traditional mores that pervaded Japanese society to have aggravated the injustices of the war, and this strengthened their sense of having been wronged by the government and the military.
