ABSTRACT
The task of introducing the reader to the young people who participated in the research project in Moscow is a difficult one, for they are a collection of individuals not a delimited sociological group or a carefully sampled cross-section of young Russians. Indeed—as one of them noted—what connected them was not even that they represented Moscow neformaly (non-formals), but that they were all simply nenormaly (abnormals).
