ABSTRACT
Primary science is a complex mix of processes, concepts, attitudes and skills, with the pupils at the centre. As a primary school teacher for 15 years in inner city, multicultural schools, an advisory teacher for another two, and recently as a trainer of teachers and researcher, I have been interested mainly in the ideas that children hold, how they acquire these ideas, and the means which teachers can use to develop these ideas towards more scientific concepts.
