ABSTRACT

Few of them, if any, are tackled in any holistic way in schools. At the same time, little attention is being given to environmental education as a crosscurricular theme of the National Curriculum for England and Wales or as a curricular area in other regions. Even fewer schools have established an

environmental policy. Initial teacher training exercises on in-service training days should, on occasions, be used to tackle these matters in a comprehensive way. An example of an exercise which has been successful in achieving some or all of these aims and objectives is detailed here.
