ABSTRACT

SA: One of the Strategy’s big achievements has been to put literacy back right at the heart of what primary schools are about. I think possibly an underestimated impact of the Strategy has been the extent to which the framework has given teachers a common professional language. It struck me really forcibly when we did a series of conferences with headteachers from right across the country a couple of years ago. Irrespective of where you were, that common professional language provides a very powerful basis for professional development, for collaborative work, for networking, for sharing planning and resources.
