Similarly, in Italian, se `if' can introduce a hypothesis or condition, or periodo ipotetico. Conditional sentences are traditionally divided into three types: real or probable, possible and impossible. This is a slightly artificial division. In reality there are only two main types of conditional sentence: those which are a possibility, and those which are unlikely or impossible.
