ABSTRACT
In this chapter we provide an introduction to one of the major tools of social research, the interview. Central to the interview is the issue of asking questions and this is often achieved in qualitative research through conversational encounters. We will outline the different kinds of interviews available and show how the teacher-researcher might make use of interviews and conversations as a source of data in school-based research.
