ABSTRACT

In order to effectively manage children’s playground behaviour, it is necessary for supervisors to possess a range of some specific behaviour-management skills. Like any other type of skill development, competence in this particular range of skills can be enhanced with appropriate guidance and practice. Nevertheless, one absolutely elementary skill-the ability to actually detect whether a child is behaving aggressively-has been overlooked in most training courses now on offer for playground supervisors. Adults are faced with several problems that could impede an ‘accurate’ perception of the nature of children’s playground behaviours.
