ABSTRACT

Acts of bullying include a wide variety of behaviours, from very clear physical aggression to more subtle threats and on to psychological intimidation, demeaning, and social exclusion. There are three ways of measuring bullying. These are: questionnaire-based surveys, interviews, and individual pupil activities. Using maps Supply the pupils with maps of the school, and ask them to highlight the places where bullying takes place or where they feel unsafe. Bullying increases at first as a result of awareness raising. Once staff and pupils begin to discuss bullying behaviour openly, the pupils will be more likely to report it. Measuring levels of bullying is a useful and worthwhile way to begin teachers' antibullying work. By repeating the measurement at regular intervals one will know how successful they have been in tackling the problem.
