ABSTRACT

In order to avoid confusion between sounds and the letters of ordinary spelling it is necessary to use phonetic script, which in this book is made as simple as possible without any difficult complications. Sound symbols are here printed in square brackets []. In phonetic script as here used [·] after a symbol indicates length of a sound, e.g. [wi·] means we or wce. Stress is marked by means of ['] before the beginning of the accented syllable, e.g. [bi’li·v]=believe.
