ABSTRACT

The hardware and software people see convergence as the technology of voice, video and data delivery coming together through a single package. The digitizing of content is particularly critical when it comes to video. Once video is digitized, its audio and visual elements can be compressed into tiny units of data making it feasible to send and receive, and usable by digital devices. One of the first convergent devices was the Nokia N-Gage. It was both a cell phone and a handheld game console, thus converging media and capabilities that had never been available before on a single device. Interactive television (iTV) and video on demand (VOD) have been two of the most widely anticipated manifestations of convergence, and to a limited degree, they are already available to people. Many content creators have found innovative ways to incorporate new forms of digital convergence into their narratives.
