ABSTRACT

Observation is simply noticing what is going on, by collecting information without interfering. In a world where we are inundated with information, we can unknowingly become selective about what we observe, so we need to be deliberate with our observation, depending on the task at hand. Teachers are now taught and encouraged to observe in greater depth, and are expected to plan how and what they will observe, consciously. Observing the individual student to understand where they are at now, is necessary in order to plan to take them onto their next stage.
