ABSTRACT
This final chapter details the phase of consolidating femaling. It also seeks to consolidate the approach of the book as a whole. Early chapters detailed the theoretical and methodological approach of the study and were followed by a detailed account of a number of phases in the ideal-typical career path of the male femaler-using selected case material to illustrate throughout. Immersion in the real lives of male femalers enabled the generation of a conceptual schema that ‘fits and works’. Inevitably though, an approach which isolates phases and stages, and uses selected vignettes to illustrate them, fails to do justice to the fact that in actual lived experience, development and order are constructed post facto, and anew from the standpoint of each new present.
