ABSTRACT

Based mainly in the United Kingdom and the United States, the natural death movement (NDM) started to gain in popularity in the late 1980s. Its aims are to generate and promote new ideas to enhance the quality of dying and the provision of green, inexpensive and family organized funerals (Alberry et al. 1995). The NDM has its roots in the rejection of the professionalization of death as highlighted by writers like Jessica Mitford.
