ABSTRACT

The vampire is a mythic creature, a ghost (see ghosts) or reanimated corpse who gains energy from the blood of living humans. The word itself suggests the idea of an entity from one plane drinking in the energies proper to another: from the Russian vampir, derived from the root-word pi (to drink). Although most vampires are held to be dead human beings some are described as disembodied demonic spirits forming a quite separate species of intelligent life.
