ABSTRACT

For her ‘five-minutes-per-day’ plan Tina’s teacher decides to focus at this stage on the Phonics tasks. She is fortunate in having the assistance of a voluntary classroom helper and the support of Tina’s father in following the suggestions under the Meaning heading. Because of the limited time available to her, the Fluency tasks are at present held ‘on ice’ but will be reconsidered later in the light of the progress Tina is making. (N.B. These were the choices made by Tina’s teacher. Other alternatives could have been equally valid such as a focus on Fluency as described in the case study of William on page 71. It is Tina’s response to the teaching which determines whether these choices were appropriate for her.)
