ABSTRACT

William’s teacher decided to choose twelve frequently used words from the information and stories that he had dictated to her. As an alternative, she could have taken the words from the first pages of an early book in a reading scheme. It was important to select words with different grammatical functions, i.e. nouns, verbs, prepositions, so that a variety of sentences could be made up from them (see Table 5.1). The target objective was stated in the following way:
