ABSTRACT

Professional and moral imperatives demand that every teacher should ensure that all pupils have opportunities to develop their full potential. Local Education Authorities and schools will have equal opportunities policies. It is the responsibility of individual teachers to put these policies into practice, so that all pupils are able to develop their IT skills, knowledge and understanding, and have access to IT resources that support their individual learning needs. In this chapter, there are sections on equal opportunities issues in relation to gender, as there is concern that girls may not have sufficient opportunities to develop their IT capability; and in relation to Special Educational Needs (SEN), because IT can be especially helpful in supporting the needs of pupils with disabilities.
