ABSTRACT
Narrowing down within the sphere of Hellenistic influence and the dominion of Rome in late antiquity, our focus settles on Judaism. This was a distinctive culture and society within the ancient world, and as such had particular concerns and practices regarding women. This chapter also provides an opportunity to make initial observations regarding embryonic Christianity as it emerges out of Judaism at this time.
