ABSTRACT
Jerusalem is consciously presented by Judaism as the centre of its faith: it is the capital of God’s chosen land; where God’s chosen king should live, and, most importantly, where God’s holiness dwells in a unique manner. The latter refers to the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Holy of Holies which is only entered by one person, the high priest, once a year on the Day of Atonement.
