ABSTRACT

ART THERAPY Art therapy is a human service profession that uses art media, images, the creative process, and patient/client responses to their created products as tangible products that symbolize the client’s inner worldreflections of an individual’s development, abilities, personality, interests, concerns, and conflicts. Art therapy is reaching and touching emotions through artwork to promote the recognition and identification of feelings about oneself and others. This nonverbal process allows clients to work through concerns, conflicts, and unresolved issues in a therapeutic setting. The goals of art therapy are to move toward healing and growth. The therapeutic outcome can be enlightening, empowering the client with a stronger sense of awareness, identity, accomplishment, and self-knowledge.
