RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) is a humanistic, actionoriented approach to emotional growth, which emphasizes (1) the individuals’ capacity for creating their emotions; (2) the ability to change and overcome the past by focusing on the present; and (3) the power to choose and implement satisfying alternatives to current patterns. REBT is a comprehensive approach to psychological treatment that deals not only with the emotional and behavioral aspects of human disturbance, but emphasizes its cognitive component: “Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
