Prophylactic treatment with aerosolized antibiotics leads to emergence of resistant organisms, and is no longer recommended except for the outpatient cystic fibrosis population61. Immunoglobulin has been shown to reduce nosocomial infection, including pneumonia62, but further studies are needed to demonstrate costeffectiveness.
