ABSTRACT

The origin of international law is a matter of dispute among scholars.1 Some authors start by examining the relations and treaties between polit ical entities from ancient times (3000 b c ) , including pre-classical antiquity in the Near East, ancient Greece and Persia, and the Romano-Hellenistic period.2 The prevailing view in the study of international law is that it emerged in Europe in the period after the Peace of Westphalia (1648), which concluded the Thirty Years War.
