Choice of corticosteroid preparation Corticosteroids with a long-acting depot effect are preferred for IA joint injection (e.g. triamcinolone acetonide) (Empire Rheumatism Council 1957), but there are few studies of the various preparations available (Blyth et al. 1994). Frequent requirement for joint injection should prompt a review of the patient’s DMARD therapy.
