ABSTRACT
For patients and relatives, the resuscitation room is likely to provoke anxiety and concerns about privacy, unfamiliar procedures and faces, and intimidating equipment. Our own familiarity with these matters should not prevent us from realizing how alien these may be to our patients and their relatives. Also, we need to remember that accidents and medical emergencies can cause marked reactions with which the layman may not be familiar.
