ABSTRACT
Each year in the United Kingdom, thousands of critically ill patients are transferred between hospitals. A significant proportion of these transfers involved trauma patients undergoing secondary transfer from district general hospitals to specialist units. Inter-hospital transfer of critically injured patients is a much more serious and potentially complicated process than many people realize and the occurrence of adverse incidents are well recognized.
