ABSTRACT

Introduction Prostate cancer is a major factor in the health of the ageing male population and, in terms of incidence, it is the most common cancer among American men.1 With regard to prevalence, prostate cancer probably represents the most common malignancy in males. Incidental, unsuspected or latent carcinoma has been detected in about 10-20% of prostate tissue specimens examined following prostatectomy performed because of lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).2
