ABSTRACT

The history of the treatment of urethral strictures includes many new techniques that offer the promise of long-term cure for this disabling condition. The existence of so many techniques and procedures is indication enough that all involve failures as well as successes. The Urolume is certainly no different in this regard. It is by no means a guaranteed cure for every stricture in the bulbar urethra and should be used only as one of the many available treatment options in carefully selected patients by experienced urologists. Longer follow-up, to 10 years at least, of larger groups of patients is necessary before the definitive place of this device in the treatment of urethral strictures can be determined.
