ABSTRACT

Introduction It is not uncommon for patients with advanced or recurrent intra-abdominal malignancy to develop obstructive renal failure. The decision to treat or not to treat is sometimes difficult, and quality-of-life assessment is paramount; the wishes of the patient and relatives are of prime importance. However, in the case of previously untreated disease or slowly progressive recurrence, where the patient has not had the opportunity of receiving all available therapeutic modalities, the decision is easy: the majority of urologists would treat the renal failure by some form of drainage.
