ABSTRACT
This case study, although arising from an investigation into whether or not outsourcing is a better option than in-house cleaners, investigates the injury reduction and cost benefit of using modern management techniques and asking the question ‘is there a better and safer way to do this job?’. The answer was clearly yes, which led to reduced costs and reduced injury risks. The management techniques employed included improved work organisation, suitable capital equipment and training for the cleaners.
