ABSTRACT

The antiemetic action of these drugs is through their action as dopamine antagonists. The drugs are divided into three groups, according to their side effects. Those in group 3 are most commonly used as antiemetics because they have the least sedative and antimuscarinic effects (although having more pronounced extrapyramidal side effects than those in groups 1 and 2). Drugs in this group include prochlorperazine, perphenazine, fluphenazine, and trifluoperazine:

? Prochlorperazine is the least sedative and has a role in the treatment of labyrinthine disorders.
