ABSTRACT

ICG (0.5 mg/kg) is injected intravenously, and venous samples collected from the contralateral limb vein every 2 min for 14 min. The decay profiles of concentrationtime are analysed by non-linear regression analysis. Clearance is derived as:

where AUC is the area under the concentration-time curve extrapolated to infinity (see Chapter 19 for derivation). The extraction ratio for ICG is assumed to be 0.74, and then equation (3) is used to derive liver blood flow. Alternatively, clearance may be calculated from pharmacokinetic models as described in Chapter 19.
