A chest radiograph demonstrates anatomy and some types of pathophysiology and should be looked at systematically. There are a variety of ways of doing this but the following notes may help:

? Check the name and date. ? Check that there is no rotation. When correct the medial ends of the clavicles lie

equally on either side of the spinous processes. ? With correct exposure the posterior ribs are just visible behind the cardiac shadow. ? On an inspiratory film, the level of the diaphragm should be at, or below, the

anterior part of the sixth rib and the posterior part of the tenth rib.
