ABSTRACT

Blood Blood volume is estimated at 100 ml/kg in the pre-term neonate, 80 ml/kg at full term, and 75 ml/kg at 2 years. Blood transfusion should be considered when there is a loss of 10% of the estimated blood volume, just as in the adult, and therefore blood loss should be carefully measured. Blood must always be warmed before transfusion, even if the volume is as little as 10 ml.
