ABSTRACT
The patient with multiple injuries presents the greatest challenge to the anaesthetist. It may be necessary to balance the conflicting requirements of diverse injuries and the anaesthetist may find him-or herself the arbiter in planning which surgical interventions take priority. It is helpful to remember the order of priority used during resuscitation-namely, airway, breathing, circulation, and neurological disability.
