ABSTRACT
Time and quietness are necessary for the performance of regional anaesthesia, and blocks should therefore be carried out in the anaesthetic room or somewhere relatively undisturbed. The time taken for some blocks to become effective needs to be taken into account to prevent undue delays and unsatisfactory anaesthesia when the procedure starts. The operating room is seldom the ideal environment because it is being prepared for the next case.
