ABSTRACT

As a physical unit North America conventionally extends south to the isthmus of Panama, but the USA and Canada are usually regarded as culturally distinct from Latin America, from which they are separated by the US-Mexican border. The USA and Canada were commonly referred to some decades ago as AngloAmerica, but usage has changed, one reason being the growing nationalist feeling in Canada’s Frenchspeaking Quebec, another the increasing number of Hispanics and other ‘non-Anglo’ peoples in the USA.
