ABSTRACT
Most British health care is provided by the state-run National Health Service (NHS) which is tax funded and free at the point of delivery. Although it has always existed alongside a fee-charging private sector alternative, the great majority of ordinary citizens can expect to come into contact with the NHS at some time in life, if only upon entering and leaving it.
