ABSTRACT

This paper is concerned with recent tree-ring based reconstructions of summer temperatures in the northern and central regions of western Europe. The paper is divided into two primary sections. The first describes the reconstruction of a single mean Fennoscandinavian temperature series representing the late summer months of July and August back beyond A.D. 1600. The second section describes the reconstruction of spatial patterns of temperature for a longer summer season (April to September) across much of western Europe back to A.D. 1750.
