ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the antecedents of an online double-blind randomised controlled experiment with naïve participants. The experiment, which is currently underway, is studying how automated online warning messages influence users’ behaviour when they are attempting to access ‘barely legal’ pornography. The results of the project will be used to inform strategies to reduce the numbers of new entrants into the market for child pornography. The chapter uses Henry’s (2012) discussion of ‘transdisciplinary’ research to reflect on the team’s experience – a collaboration between academics from ICT, crime science and law, with industry experts in web design and advertising.
