Notes on Some of the Main Characters Closely Connected with the Jansenist Movement in France

ANGELIQUE, MOTHER. Full name: Jacqueline-Marie-Angelique de Sainte-Madeleine (1591-1661). Sister of Mother Agnes. Abbess of the Cistercian convent of Port-Royal from 1602 to 1636 and from 1642 to 1661. In 1608 she began the reforms which were later to lead Port-Royal to become the centre of the Jansenist movement. For Monsieur Goldmann, she was one of those most strongly influenced by the views of Barcos.
