ABSTRACT

Effective planning in the art department takes account of the different abilities and interests of each pupil allowing them to progress and demonstrate their achievements, whilst making for effective learning and an effective learning environment. A balanced programme of study is one which develops skills in painting, drawing, collage, 3D work, printing and textiles and develops an understanding of colour, line, texture, pattern, shape, form and space. Progression statements in the skills and elements of each project are important when providing for the more able and work should be built upon over a period of time, rather than a series of 'one-off' lessons.
