ABSTRACT

The growing number of woman-owned businesses has sparked debate on how men and women business owners differ and, more specifically, on the strength of the gender-based disadvantages women business owners face (Brush 1992). Such questions are critical to policy-makers, educators and potential entrepreneurs. Answers to these questions may provide guidelines for training and support programs designed to meet the needs of new business owners. Do women business owners have special needs? How different are their experiences?
