ABSTRACT

This book is for practitioners and students in the field of mental health, most obviously counsellors and trainee counsellors. Psychotherapists, applied psychologists and health professionals whose work includes counselling may also find it useful. It gives ideas, evidence and arguments about some of the main new directions which counselling is taking in the UK.Counselling’s main current concerns-professionalism, multiculturalism, brevity, accountability, effectiveness and integrationare all represented (cf. Dryden 1994; Horton et al. 1995).
