ABSTRACT

Film-maker Jabor’s first film, Opiniao publica (Public Opinion) (1967), a cine-verite documentary, explored the political aspects of private life. Subsequent films like Toda nudez sera castigada (All Nudity will be Punished) (1972), Tudo bem (Everything’s OK) (1978) and Eu te amo (I Love You) (1981) satirized the patriarchal morality that coexisted with con servative modernization. Later work portrayed the identity crisis among youths produced by moder nization, reflected in the films’ use of visual imagery derived from advertising. In the 1990s, Jabor continued his apocalyptic explorations of social life as a journalist through his fictionalized cronicas (see cronica) of political life in the press and on TV Globo.
